Imagine the scene: you're at a party, taking photos and sharing precious moments with friends, when suddenly, your phone slips from your hand and plunges into the pool or the toilet. Panic sets in as you fish your device out of the water. But then you remember the famous advice: put the phone in a bag of rice and hope for the best.

The origin of this trick is somewhat obscure, but it became popular due to the belief that rice can absorb the moisture from the phone, helping to save its circuits and internal components. The logic behind this seems plausible: rice is a natural desiccant, which means it has the ability to extract moisture from the air around it.

However, technology experts warn that this technique might not be as effective as it seems. First, rice doesn't always reach the deeper areas of the device where water might be lodged. Additionally, even if rice absorbs some of the surface moisture, damage to the internal circuits may have already occurred.

So, what is the best approach when your phone takes an unexpected dive? The answer is to act quickly and carefully. Instead of relying solely on rice, turn off the device immediately, remove the battery (if possible), and dry it carefully with a soft cloth. Then, place it in a container with silica gel or take it to a professional for proper disassembly and drying.

Interestingly, rice can still play a useful role in this process, but not as the primary savior. Placing the phone in a bag of rice might work as a complementary measure to absorb residual moisture, as long as it's combined with other drying methods.

Ultimately, while the rice myth might offer a glimmer of hope in desperate moments, it's important to approach the situation with realism and act quickly to increase the chances of recovering your beloved device.
